- Foundations: the fundamental premises of the discipline of urban design, as articulated in theoretical concepts, design approaches, tools, and roles of the designer.
- Methods: the methodologies by which we write histories of urban design, which are in need of constant revision to address blind spots in the canonized histories.
- Horizons: new and understudied thematic angles and vantage points from which histories of urban design can be written, addressing current-day concerns.
- Active participation in research activities of the Chair, including support for the acquisition of new research projects, as well the development of an individual research trajectory
- Contribution to teaching the core courses of the Chair (Bachelor and Master), with an emphasis on the relation between theory and practice
- Participation in the organizational and administrative tasks of the Chair
- Support in the culture of the Chair, through involvement in reading groups, mentoring of doctoral candidates, the organization of workshops, etc
- PhD related to the history and theory of urban design
- At least 2-3 years of postdoc experience
- Successful experience with research funding applications
- Affinity with design practice and culture
- Interest and experience in teaching
- Ability to work in a team, problem-solving skills and ability to self-organize and take personal responsibility in the fulfillment of tasks
- Strong communication and writing skills in English, as well as German and/or French
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Based in, or willing to move to, Zurich
