The Category Manager – Direct within Global Procurement function of Straumann group manages a portfolio of selected Categories and/or sub-categories. The Category Manager – Direct is responsible to design, introduce and execute categories/sub-categories strategies and projects that can span more than one manufacturing site, region and business unit. In his/her role, the Category Manager is accountable for the COGS performance as well as the continuity of supply for the portfolio.Main Tasks and Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of selected categories/sub-categories, projects and strategic suppliers than can span more than one site, region, business unit.
- Develop Procurement category strategies, that are aligned with the overall business strategy and sustainable framework of the Straumann group: ensure the execution of sourcing projects that are integrated, cross-functionally executed and aligned with Straumann business stakeholders.
- Evaluate supply risk and formulate mitigations to ensure continuity of product supply to the operations.
- Analyze supplier markets and provide recommendations that translate into actionable strategies and forward-looking analysis. Develop expertise, maintain market intelligence and stays abreast of the changing supply base and new technologies.
- Lead and drive sourcing projects and achieve targets:
- Lead efforts that drive cost optimization, improve quality, service and enhanced innovation through strategic sourcing, supplier relationship and risk management.
- Identify saving opportunities and manage a pipeline (regional, global, cross business unit) of sourcing projects and initiatives
- Define and execute strategic sourcing initiatives: through the use of the digital tools in place, lead supplier selection and negotiation through the RFP process, in collaboration with the different Straumann business units and corporate functions.
- Manage supplier performance. Define and execute a yearly communication plan with critical / strategic suppliers.
- Ensure proper implementation, track and monitor performance including on ESG aspects once defined for suppliers
- Preferred eduction: Master, MBA academic degree in Business, Economics, or Engineering
- Professional certification: CPSM or CIPS desired
- Langage: English (excellent written and spoken), Others – fluency in at least one additional language is advantageous (e.g. Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese)
- Minimum 5 years in strategic procurement role (category management, strategic sourcing) with exposure to supply chain management (regionally or globally), complex strategic sourcing in a global matrix environment, optimal procurement processes and standards
- Demonstrated performance in working within cross-functional teams, with requisite drive and energy to be successful in delivering a challenging transformation agenda
- Specific category experience includes at least one of these: Logistics, Supply Chain, Packaging.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels (including technical and operational) and with all functions at least in English
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities and drive tasks to completion in a fixed time-frame, in an agile environment
- Must be able to clearly and concisely communicate, explain and report issue or opportunities
- Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and build relationships across multiple functions, countries, regions and cultures
- Demonstrated broad understanding of the content, processes and delivery channels in the field of the assigned categories. Expert negotiation skills
- Proven ability to assess risks associated with supplier and market changes in a regulated environment.
- Sense of urgency to support operations when needed, pro-active and “can-do attitude” to identify problems quickly, make sound judgments, establish and implement solutions.
