Main Purpose: We are looking for a candidate at the Associate level, who is capable of both assisting senior team members in the M&A team with respect to the analysis, structuring, negotiation and execution of larger and more complex transactions, while at the same time maintaining responsibility for and leading on smaller transactions. A secondary role of the Associate will be to provide support to the Operating Asset Division with respect to our existing assets, including business planning, project analysis (capital investment, new business lines / geographies) and strategy.The M&A team is directly involved across the breadth of operations of the Trafigura group of companies and responsible for investments related to oil and gas, metals and minerals, renewables, power and carbon (in each case, production, processing / refining, trading and distribution); as well as energy and transport infrastructure (including terminals, pipelines, rail and shipping).The Operating Asset Division is responsible for creating value from existing and new Assets, in service of the Trading Divisions. The Division will optimise use of capital, generate capital growth, maximise cash yield, and develop strong resilience within the portfolios.The M&A team and Operating Asset Division work closely and are jointly responsible for all material assets owned by Trafigura throughout their lifecycle from identification / origination of new opportunities, acquisition, performance management and value creation during our ownership and ultimate exit.Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities3-5 years of experience in a M&A team in a corporate, trading house / physical commodities company or investment bank (ideally having originally trained in a banking environment)Strong understanding of one or more of the oil, gas, metals, bulks, infrastructure, power, renewables and energy transition sectorsRelevant M&A experience, including working on completed transactions, in one of the above markets is essentialUltimately one would be expected to become a “generalist” across all areas where Trafigura is operatingKey ResponsibilitiesSupporting senior M&A team members with respect to larger transactions encompassing origination, financial analysis, due diligence, negotiation of transaction documents, internal stakeholder management and approvals, execution, signing-to-close and post-completion integrationTaking the lead and managing smaller and less complex deals (both with business development and M&A)Supporting the Operating Asset Division with respect to our existing assets, including business planning, project analysis and strategyCompetenciesTechnical & Analytical ProficiencyAdvanced financial modelling, valuation, and analytical skills essential for investment evaluation and decision-makingAbility to lead end-to-end transaction management, including screening, evaluation, structuring, internal approvals, negotiation, financing, and executionDegree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or related business disciplineCommunication & Stakeholder ManagementExcellent verbal and written communication skills; confident presenter in internal and external settingsProven ability to originate transactions through a professional network and present investment cases to senior stakeholdersSkilled in building strong internal relationships across functional areas including trading, legal, tax, corporate finance, and analyticsExecution & Organizational CapabilitiesHighly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of handling multiple priorities simultaneouslyDemonstrates initiative, self-confidence, and sound judgment under pressure in fast-paced environmentsStrong team player with collaborative mindsetAdditional RequirementsWillingness to travel regularly to engage with buyers, sellers, investors, and strategic partnersFluent in written and spoken EnglishAdditional fluency in Spanish or French strongly preferredKey Relationships and Department Overview:Key RelationshipsSenior ManagementAsset DivisionTradersOther business functions (e.g. legal, finance, tax, CHESS, corporate affairs, HR)About the M&A TeamThe Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) team plays a strategic role in supporting the Group’s long-term value creation, contributing meaningfully to overall performance over the past decade.
